Information about the t3versions bot

What is the t3versions bot?

The t3versions bot is a friendly web crawler, which searches the internet for websites running the open source content management system TYPO3 CMS. You can identify the bot by the user agent string:

Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; t3versionsBot/1.0; +https://www.t3versions.com/bot)

The t3versions bot will save the domain name of a website to a database, if the website has been identified to use TYPO3 CMS. The domain name is saved for further TYPO3 CMS version analysis. Collected data is aggregated for statistical purposes only and publicly available at https://www.t3versions.com/statistics.

How does the bot access your website?

The t3versions bot crawls domain lists in order to identify, if a website is running TYPO3 CMS. For each domain in the domain list, the t3versions bot will do the following:

  • Perform a single GET request to http://domain.tld
  • If the webserver responds with a redirect (e.g. non-SSL to SSL), the redirect is followed
  • The final webserver response is analyzed for fingerprints of TYPO3 CMS
  • If the website has been identified as a website running TYPO3 CMS, the domain is saved to the database

Blocking t3versions bot from visiting your site

The most easy way to block the t3versions bot from visiting your website is to block requests with the t3versions User Agent String.

If you have no possibility or knowledge on how to block requests on user agent basis, your domain name or ip address can manually be excluded from the t3versions bot. In order to get your domain name or ip address excluded from the bot, please contact me by email at derhansen@gmail.com.

Please note, that the t3versions project is a private project with no commercial interests. Data is collected for statistical purposes in order to get information about the worldwide usage and general development of the open source content management system TYPO3 CMS.
